It’s complicated

I got the early train to Edinburgh and met Jenny in the Balmoral for coffee. So civilised, quiet, comfy sofa, and a whole cafetière of very good coffee with shortbread too for the same as what an indifferent cafe coffee would cost. Don’t tell!

Then we went to the Gallery of modern art for the Warhol and Paolozzi exhibition. It was fascinating to see the connection between the work of these contemporaries. This is a philosophical work related to Wiggenstein - a rival of Bertrand Russell if I remember his biography correctly.

Then a long lunch at our favourite restaurant 21212 on Royal Terrace. The delicious food was beautifully presented and the ambiance is perfect. Only about 12 tables, well set out so that nobody’s conversation intruded. The cheese course was called A Fine Brexit Selection, the water waiter was Hungarian and the sommelier Italian. Our waitress was Scottish, so indeed a lovely European mix.

I can’t say I’m looking forward to the result of tomorrow’s election. I imagine the North East will no longer have 2 Labour and 1 Tory MEP. It’ll be 3 Brexit as all the disaffected pro leave from both parties will vote for them and the remain vote will be split with people loyal to their party and the disaffected remainers voting LibDem or Green.
