Great Chalfield Manor NT (Wednesday 15th May 2019)

On such a beautiful day it was by a happy chance that I found myself at Great Chalfield Manor NT, somewhere I hadn't visited for some years as it is a little off the beaten track. I spent about an hour there and took fifty or so pictures, including many of wildflowers such as the bluebells, toadflax and plantain. These are in the album but for blip I could not resist these splendid irises.
I'd got caught up in the Melksham roadworks on the way there so for the return run I devized a route via back roads through the pretty villages of Broughton Gifford, Shaw, Whitley and Lacock. This proved a very attractive drive and included some roads I don't believe I had travelled before, even after thirty years.

Lozarhythm Of The Day:
The Walker Brothers - Boulder To Birmingham (recorded 1975)
Scott Walker's vocal on this, from the album No Regrets, is just transcendent. The song was co-written by Emmylou Harris and recorded earlier that year for the album Pieces Of The Sky. It dealt with the feelings of grief following the death of her mentor and singing partner Gram Parsons.
