The small stuff

A frenetic kind of a day. Best, and probably most calm, part of the day was walking with ArchieMacDoodle when we took time to notice some small stuff rather than be overwhelmed by the big stuff. He, on the other hand, had already noticed some small stuff (Squirrel!!!) disappearing up a tree (big stuff) and, unable to climb up after it, took to blowing raspberries (picture below - please ignore the safety rope).

Today I've variously typed responses to letters and emails (no Brexit today - hurrah!), answered phones, sourced and collected emergency church candles for tomorrow's funeral, accepted and collected food for the funeral tea (people are so kind), removed rabbit carcasses, walked twice with ArchieMacDoodle (aren't the colours fabulous just now?), made dinner, fed children, eaten carrot cake created by #002 (heaven!) edited and reworked and reworked again tomorrow's words.

And so, the small stuff - good to notice it sometimes, gives the detail to the bigger picture, can easily be missed in the rush of the day...
"Frail as summer's flower we flourish,
Blows the wind and it is gone..."

Don't sweat the small stuff, sure, but I think sometimes perhaps that still, small (very, very small) piece of calm is just waiting for us to notice the small stuff, and just ...stop... for a moment.
