Shaping Light

To my mind, the success of this image, such as it is, lies in the two triangular shapes of light water. In the foreground, I like the way the first leads in and tapers in a curve between the fallen trunk and the bank, and beyond that in reverse between the two trunks. They make an egg timer shape I suppose and give a structure to an otherwise messy scene of branches and twigs.

On an overcast evening made even more gloomy under the trees, the water reflects the light gray sky above, along with the bright greens of the mosses on the trunks and logs which provide the center of interest.

I love scenes like this with all the messiness and chaos, the fallen tree symbolizing the natural cycle of things, but it's a challenge to find a way to organize the disorder.
