Rooftops

I walked up Castle Mound this morning.  
Yes, Barnstaple did once have a castle - original one made of wood (C11th) and later stone.  Fell into disrepair in late 1270's  and stones were removed/used in other buildings and so by 1326 it was just a ruin.  Storm in 1601 blew the remaining walls down and only the Motte is now remaining - up which I walked.  It was wonderfully sunny - but the wind was chilly still.
