Death and renewal

We heard a few shots from the duck shooters as we woke this morning and I’m sure the weather would have suited their purposes. Heavy fog until 2pm when the sun broke through and warmed our world .
It was ironing and the preparation of a tarte tatin for me this morning (for tomorrow night’s family dinner) and also I pricked out the broccoli and cavolo nero seedlings I had sown from seed a few weeks ago. They look a bit tiny but I hope they’ll thrive. It’s always a balance between white butterflies and the first frost isn’t it. Nowadays I have one of the raised beds shrouded in white netting to keep the butterflies off and I’ve not seen any for a week or two, so fingers crossed.
Then I headed to the sewing room and finished the hand sewn binding on the pinkish quilt that I’ve been working on. I’ll take a picture of that for you tomorrow. I have cut out blocks for another quilt in simple 10 inch squares…tractors, barns, jungle animals and dinosaurs feature on the various fabrics!
Meanwhile, Dr D went to the timber merchant for replacement timber for the slats on a very old park bench we have in the garden, whose old slats where quietly rotting away. He then removed the old slats from their cast alloy ends…decided they needed a birthday too and scraped and  spray-painted them , as you can see. The new timber was dressed and when completed D then found 3 stain colour options and put the first two coats on the slats in the colour I had chosen to complement the garden…a reddish brown.
The last light of the day looks very pretty as it picks up the fallen leaves and I also found several patches of toadstools(I think) as I took a stroll around the garden just now. So here are a sample of images I snapped.
