Tramping

The route: a loop from the Makarora River into the Wilkin's River drainage. Climbing steeply over the snowfields of Gillespie's Pass. Then descending through the Young River drainage before fording the Makarora where we began. 60k in total encompassing southern beech forest, alpine meadows, snowfields and glacial valleys.

So began our great NZ tramping trip! It was a lovely day and great fun exercising our legs over rocky trails. Meandering through primeval forests, and sojourning in nature with great company.

This is a typical Kiwi style swing bridge fording one of many streams along our route.
