Sabotage...
Backblipped
So today was all about my annual get together with the mum friends I met twenty years ago when we all attended a leadership course for parents of children with disabilities. A very special group of women who I would count among my closest friends despite us not seeing each other as much as we would like (we are scattered all over Scotland.)
No matter how long it's been since we got together we just take up where we left off. Such is our bond that Alice even left her husband at home alone on their 34th wedding anniversary!
We have been through so much together, from the joint experiences of raising our children, to widow-hood and the loss of a child. I would say we would have a unique bond. And laughter. Oh heavens we have laughter. Always in abundance when we get together and catch up on what's been happening in each other's lives.
Everyone arrived just after 4pm and despite having organised some healthy nibbles and organic hummous, Alice top trumped that by waltzing in with this box of doughnuts! Would have been rude to refuse one ;-))
We had such a lovely evening catching up over dinner. Dorothy brought a selection of delicious cakes(see extra) from Helmi's the Syrian bakery on Rothesay, which alongside the pavlova I made ensured our sugar levels were topped up!!!
Heather was first to head to bed, followed by Dorothy then Jo then Alice just after 2am. Eileen and I made it to 3am.
Another wonderful evening in the company of the best hearts.
I can't see doughnuts without thinking of the inimitable TV cook Fanny Craddock and her husband Johnny who, legend has it, when his talented wife made doughnuts on tv, turned to the camera as she presented them at the end of the show and said, "hope all your doughnuts turn our like Fanny's." Hahahahahahaha....makes me laugh every time!
In the days before Delia :-)))
