Good Friday
First of all we went to church which started at 7.30 and lasted for 4 hours. The services always begin with singing from the choirs (this church has 7 choirs and their singing is excellent). Today we had communion as well. There were about 800 people in the church and we had been asked to sing ourselves. 12 years ago when I first came here I was terrified at the prospect of talking in front of 800 people, let alone singing. I don't know what has changed in that time, but this time around I didn't feel too nervous and it was fine. Extra: the hymns in Bemba.
In the evening, we were invited to dinner with Dainess and her family. Her grandchildren all came in to say hello to us, each one giving a little courtesy (this is normal in Zambia and very touching). Alison enjoyed cuddling the youngest, who was only 3 months old.
Extra: the feast of food.
