Sgurr Mor
Sgurr Mor, 1003m
This is one of the most remote hills between Glen Dessary and Loch Quoich and probably one of the least climbed of the Munros. We had everything perfectly arranged: staying close by, good weather, light winds, no midges or cleggs. To begin the walk it required a long tortuous drive up the wiggly single track road running along Loch Arkaig, then a short cycle ride up the track to Glen Dessary lodge. To get out of Glen Dessary you have to walk 4km over a pass and down into Glen King before you come face to face with the slopes of Sgurr Mor. 2000' of grass angled at an average of 45º. It was not a lot of fun.
However, when you finally emerge from the soul destroying ascent, the ridge was a charming haul up to a splendid top with a great view, despite the haze (see extra). But then ... the long walk back out over the pass again. All-in-all a long footsore day... and a mountain that we would be unlikely to choose to do again, even in perfect conditions..
