Big world, itty bitty bird
A Banded Dotterel chick on Kaikoura Beach. This is the same species I blipped of mom and baby two days ago. There are a couple families with very recently hatched chicks along this stretch of beach. The parents are tireless in their efforts, chasing off any gull that flies within 10 meters and distracting larger predators (i.e. me) with broken wing displays. This plover is endemic and found throughout the country.
