Red light

The first broadcast of #electronicears was sometime in 2012 - around June or July, I think - and it went out on Indigo FM, which was a hyper-local radio station based in Kirkby Lonsdale. All of the kit was set up in a stone shed on Salt Pie Lane, just behind George's Chinese take-away.

For that first show, I had all of my links written out but from then onwards I would always work off some scribbled notes, the detail of which depended almost entirely on how much time I'd had to prepare during the week. In the early days, I'd often have to re-record the links between tracks as my mind would go blank as soon as I was recording: "red light fever".

I did 90 shows on Indigo and today is my 159th for Cando FM. These days, I rarely have any handwritten notes, I just work off memory, Google, Wikipedia, and share the occasional thought on the music. It doesn't worry me if it's a bit amateurish but I long ago stopped feeling self-conscious about my own performance except, oddly, if there's anyone in the house when I'm recording. (There often is!)

If you're interested, you can listen to the shows for today here: part 1 and part 2.
