Hedges
When we moved into this house, around 20 years ago, there was very little in the way of hedges round the garden, just a few trees and fences. So we decided to plant a mixed hedge most of the way round and got a local tree guy to plan it out for us. We only used shrubs that are found locally and the planting was quite a task. But now it is a fully-grown hedgerow that provides shelter and food for many, many birds and it is a delight each year to watch it come to life with flowers and leaves.
So here is the Whitethorn. It's not exotic, it will never have showy flowers, it is quite ordinary, but it suits us and our garden . . . and the birds.
