A Bird In The Hand
My Dear Fellows & Dear Princess Normal,
When I got in from work today, Caro told me there had been great excitement in the house.
Apparently a sparrow managed to fly in to the flat. Which, in itself is a bit of a mystery. We only crack the windows a little - we don't want the boys to get out. But apparently it was enough for the little feathery fellow to get in.
Caro could tell something was amiss. The boys were on high alert. She got up to look and then -
"BLEEEUUU-OOOOH-WHOOOOOOOP".
- is apparently the noise she made as the sparrow flew directly at her. I'm not sure what she thought it was. A bat, maybe. Or a pooey sock, perhaps.
Obviously, the lads were all over it. Caro found herself surrounded by cats on the prowl, whiskers-forward, low-to-the-ground and slinking gracefully.
Well, that was Punky. Jasper was in full-on bonkers mode, pouncing wildly at everything.
So Caro deployed her poncho to trap the bewildered birdie, while at the same time batting back Jasper and Punky. In the end she managed to flap her poncho out of the window and the sparrow made good his escape.
By the time I got in, it was all over. But I could tell the lads had been having a wild time. They were frantically eating biscuits* and then settling themselves in for power naps.
My sparrow flock, meanwhile, was gathering by the back door. Close encounters with cats are one thing, but honey nut and seed muesli is quite another.
