Gently down the stream

Lunch

I have spent the day taking OG to his annual Blind Veterans' re-union lunch.  This year it was held at the very posh Tylney Hall near Hook.  Very posh but not very clever with the needs of people who are blind and/or disabled.  Unlike many of the guests, OG is completely blind (black blind, as it's known) and wheelchair bound, and although all the staff there were very kind they got into such a muddle we had hysterics  ;-D

First off, while we were waiting for all to arrive we were given coffee in a lounge - difficult for OG as he was in his wheelchair and they had no table high enough for him to put his coffee down on.  Well, it came in little diddy cups with saucers, so I asked if OG's could be put in a mug - much easier for him to deal with.  They couldn't find any.  They got the manager.  The manager disappeared and when he finally returned it was with this enormous 'Sports Direct' mug which he admitted was not the right image for Tylney Hall and which no-one had ever used.  He filled it.  A pint of coffee!

Then when we moved into the dining room we had trouble with the soup, which also needed to be in a mug.  Finally we got a cup which had to do.  Then the plates were so big he couldn't use his clip-on plate guard for the main course (to stop him getting food in his lap).  Then they brought him a teaspoon to eat his desert with but he's diabetic so was meant to have biscuits and cheese.  We laughed and laughed..

And well, phew, that's over for another year.  I'm bushed but pleased he had a good time.

And you, dear blippers, please have a happy evening - and don't forget your entries for 2019's first WildFlowerWeek xx
