Calne (Saturday 6th April 2019)

Last year I had snowdrops and snake's head fritillaries in a raised bed in my front yard; this year neither has put in an appearance. I was tipped off that there were some fritillaries to be seen in The Wharf Gardens in the town. I'd never visited as I hadn't realised they were public and I don't remember ever seeing anyone else in them either. Anyway, I went over there in the late afternoon and sure enough I did find one or two including these among the primulas.

There is a rather larger batch at Lacock Abbey but it's rather busy at the moment as Fantastic Beasts is being filmed there so loads of people are hoping for a glimpse of Johnny Depp. They are also hosts for the film version of Downton Abbey at present. When worlds collide.

Fairport Convention - Matty Groves (Take 1) (recorded 2 October 1969, Sound Techniques, Chelsea)
The Fairports recorded three takes of Matty Groves for their groundbreaking Liege And Lief album, using the third for the album. The slightly wilder first take surfaced on a compilation in 2010 and was also included in the box set Come All Ye - The First Ten Years on The Second Disc, which I played this afternoon.
