Sounding Off

In addition to the light, the Sumburgh Head lighthouse has a magnificent foghorn.  This isn't routinely used, but on special occasions the engines are fired up and the fog horn gets to sound again.  

Today was the first day of summer season at the lighthouse visitor centre and a good crowd of locals and visitors turned out to hear the fabulous horn, and get an excellent guided tour of the site.

All we need now is for the puffins to return to their burrows.
