The Early Birds

My Dear Fellows & Dear Princess Normal,

This is me walking through the building site to get to our office.

When I say, "this is me", I mean "this is me taking the picture". That's not me in the skirt in the picture.

For a start, it is far too windy for a skirt. No-one wants to see me doing a Marilyn "Seven Year Itch" tribute.

When I got to my desk, I found Lemon there already. She was looking a bit discombobulated. The contents of her bag were STREWN across her desk. Glasses, phone, notebook, purse, an ancient banana, credit cards and a piece of bread.

"Did you see all that water?" she asked me. I had not.

"There was ALL THIS water in the lift," she told me. "I looked down and noticed it and wondered where it came from. Then I turned around and around and saw it was all around me in a circle. Then I realised I'd forgotten to screw the cap on my water bottle."

Eff's sake.

Lemon went off to pour the remaining contents of her handbag into the toilet.

When she returned she pointed to her car. It was in the car-park behind our building and I could see it clearly from where we were.

"I didn't see that fence," Lemon told me, pointing. "I opened the car door and now I have a big dent." She sighed.

"Then I opened the boot to take out my work papers and then -FSSSHHHHSHHHFHFHFSSHHH!!"

Lemon mimed a big gust of wind. It IS very windy today.

"All my papers in the boot, and all the rubbish on the back street got SUCKED out and went down the street," she continued. "I was chasing them across the parking lot at 7am in the morning. Look, you can still see some of them in that man's back garden."

"Ohhh yes," I replied. I thought I could make out a Visio diagram, stuck in a bush.

She indicated the few papers she had managed to save. Unfortunately, she had stuffed them into her bag. Crumpled and soggy requirements documentation was included in the sad detritus on her desk.

"Other than that," she added, "I'm having a great morning."

I certainly was. It's stories like that which make my day.
