Leylandii no more

Previous owners of our Tuscan dreamtime planted leylandii like they were going out of fashion (they were). As a hedgerow it might have worked but they escaped upwards to form a light-impenetrable barrier. Someone then had the brilliant idea of taking their tops out. This only inspired them to faster multi-stemmed growth from the tops which has made them truly unsightly and top-heavy.

So I’ve been cutting them down. The wood burns surprisingly well when fully dried out.

This was the last outlying branch in the row.

Now felled the trees let in more light and give us a fine view of the 35m-high Douglas Firs behind them.

I've added three extras just to show that I sometimes use my 'proper' camera. Resh snow on Mt Falterona, silhouettes and La Torre and pastel shades in the evening light in Fiesole
