Another day of high winds - while I was out at Sainsbury's the rest of our unstable conifer came down. Amazingly it snapped off relatively high and the top landed very neatly between the apple trees in our orchard, causing very little damage. Luckily we have a friend with a chainsaw who's offered to come and help us clear it all up - though I think it's going to be quite a job.

In the afternoon I tried to go for a walk at Maxey Pits, but it was just unpleasant on this fairly exposed site - I think the sheep agreed too! The highlight of my visit was putting up a hare, but I wasn't quick enough to capture a photograph. And I don't think I could have held the lens steady anyway! 

I retreated to the more sheltered environment of Helpston village where I did a bit of plant recording, making some useful records, including two sites for rue-leaved saxifrage, last recorded in the village in 1911!
