"Comfort ye"

Milk and cookies. The end of a lovely afternoon, at a restaurant with delicious, special, small plates, and then a latte and this for dessert.

H and I treated the 2 of us to a performance of Handel's "Messiah" this afternoon. (our anniversary is next week...) We haven't seen it live for many years - the last time it was snowing when we came out -so romantic...this year merely rain. A Baroque expert, Steven Stubbs, directed this mid 18th C piece with the Seattle Symphony and Chorale and distinguished soloists. It was not exactly a Baroque period Orchestra or Hall, so he was asked how he would make this holiday classic seem fresh for people. It was written as a theater piece, not for a church, first performed in Dublin. His suggestions was to read the words and have some expectation for how the music should sound and then be blown away by what Handel does with them!

"Comfort ye my people", "acquainted with grief" and "we shall all be changed' resonated with me today.

I'm not a religious person but today's music was overwhelmingly beautiful - the best we have ever heard, I think.
