Wanderings & Witterings

Mill

A familiar walk in Glasgow today. It's one we've done a few times before and one I've done separately on several other occasions.

Meeting at Buchanan Bus Station we walked up to the 'Glasgow Branch' of the Forth and Clyde Canal at Port Dundas. We followed that until its junction with the main Canal and then along to Maryhill Locks, where we joined the River Kelvin Walkway.
We continued along the Walkway until the Botanic Gardens, where we had our lunch stop, before rejoining it until our journey's end at Kelvingrove Art Gallery.

The photo shows us at the ruins of North Woodside Flint Mill, built in 1850 on the site of a previous mill and closed in the 1960s. Flint was imported from France and ground here for use in the pottery glazing process.
