living in a glass house

Thankful

I'm reading a book at the moment- "The Lacuna" by Barbara Kingsolver. Last night I read this quote from the book-

"If you ever think a day is fine, you weren't paying attention. Probably somebody was getting clapped bloody while you were eating your breakfast."

Perhaps a melancholy way to look at the world but the quote rings so true today. For me, it was a lovely day. Play date with friends, wrapping presents, staying in out of the pouring rain. I didn't have to drive frantically to school wondering if my child/ren were alive or not. I didn't have to live with the terrible grief or the fear. I can hold my children tight tonight, telling them how much I love them, how thankful I am to have them in my life. It's an entirely different story for many parents of children that go to Sandy Hook Elementary school in Connecticut. I honestly do not have the strength to even imagine what they might be going through. It is too shocking, too sad, too scary to understand.

So here is a snippet from my "fine" day. I have to remember to be truly thankful for every minute of every fine day that I have.
