Wauwelwok

This is my celebration of World Book Day. It is an excerpt from my Dutch copy of Alice through the Looking Glass. I’ve chosen this because it’s such a wonderful translation of Jabberwocky - Dutch nonsense replacing English nonsense. I have a number of English editions with different illustrators including Arthur Rackham and Mervyn Peake, and a number of translation including Romanian and Estonian. The French translation makes me laugh because a lot of the witticisms and plays on words are translated literally but explained in footnotes
