Three Kings....

Deep in the dark recesses of the church three figures have appeared to make a slow journey to the manger scene. It will take them four weeks till the Feast of Epiphany to arrive.

The traditions and stories that surround the tale told by Matthew are endless. One thing to note though is that Matthew didn't talk about kings or about three! We sort of made that up at some point in time - probably to fit with the fact that three gifts are mentioned - gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

Three Kings from Persian lands afar
To Jordan follow the pointing star:
And this the quest of the travellers three,
Where the new-born King of the Jews may be.
Full royal gifts they bear for the King;
Gold, incense, myrrh are their offering.
