Winter Bus Challenge No 164!

“Willsbridge Valley on the edge of Bristol is an oasis of wildlife amongst modern housing estates. The valley was once the site of milling, quarrying and a coal dramway. The woodlands are at their best in spring, full of bluebells, red campion and the sounds of birdsong. The ponds are important homes for frogs, toads and dragonflies, and dippers and kingfishers may be seen on the stream. Foxes and badgers also live in the valley and noctule and greater horseshoe bats feed on the many insects in the valley...”

A change of plan for this morning’s Bus Challenge (my head was too bunged up to visit an exhibition and I didn’t think the speaker would appreciate being interrupted by my 40-woodbine-a-day hacking cough!) so just a short hop on the bus and a gentle stroll around the nature reserve.

It may have only been a short outing but it was sooo good to finally have the energy to get out and enjoy some fresh air and that warm “Winter” sunshine, and a sit down at the reserve’s cafe in the restored 19th century corn mill for my first outdoor ice cream of the year! (See daft extra, another momentous event that needed recording, along with my snow encounters!)
