Pelsall Works Bridge
Thick fog greeted me this morning and didn't lift until late morning, so the morning walk was shrouded. I put the drone up and even at 80 metres the fog was still present with just the suggestion of the sunrise to the east.
I took this about an hour after sunrise. As i've mentioned before I've been reading a book about the history of the Wyrley and Essington Canal. It's hard to imagine that 150 years ago the area to the left of the canal at this point was a thriving iron foundry. There are no images, but maps from the era suggest that the whole of the area along the embankment had furnaces, cupolas and the like belching out smoke. Certainly walking along that side of the canal you often see small pieces of slag. The ground is black where the grass has been worn away. It's one of the few times I wish I had a time machine to go back and see how it actually looked in those days.
