end of the road

The Kilmartin Museum Cafe opened this morning after its winter break, and we felt obliged to visit for a cup of tea. I can highly recommend it; just wish that the museum itself wasn't closed until March 1st.

This afternoon we drove north and explored the Craignish peninsula. Past Ardfern, which has a huge yacht harbour, and on to the old Kirkton Chapel which dates from the 1200s and a collection of grave slabs from the 15th/16th centuries. Further on still to the end of the road, where we climbed a knoll to enjoy a view over to Scarba (behind the sign) and the top of Jura (behind the ruined cottage). Between the two is the notorious Gulf of Corryvreckan with the third largest whirlpool in the world (apparently). According to wiki, A documentary team from Scottish independent producers Northlight Productions once threw a mannequin into the Corryvreckan ("the Hag") with a life jacket and depth gauge. The mannequin was swallowed and spat up far down current with a depth gauge reading of 262 metres (860 ft) with evidence of being dragged along the bottom for a great distance.....
