Palheiro Gardens

Funchal has at least five world-renowned gardens. The most famous is the Botanical Gardens. A frequently visited garden is the Monte Palace Garden, but my favourite is this one - formerly known as Blandy’s Gardens. The Blandy family are important in the development and quality of Madeira wine, and the family house is clearly labelled PRIVATE in this garden paradise.

I chose this photo to emphasise the range and colour. The Camellia walk was fabulous but as there is such a mixture of blooms at various stages of development, my photos didn’t capture the magic.

The magnolias are further on than in many years....still amazing.

Back for a rest and a swim before the chamber concert at Reid’s tonight.
