My First Bittern!

I've wanted to see a bittern for such a long time, so imagine my delight when I saw one today!

I was out walking with my Wednesday friends (yes, I know it's Monday), and another friend that I don't get to see so often, when we missed our path in the New Forest, so decided to walk around a local lake instead. This took us to a nature reserve and a hide filled with people with binoculars telling us that a bittern had just disappeared into the grasses. I was so excited at the thought of seeing one, even though I wasn't suitably equipped with a long lens, and thankfully we didn't have to wait too long before he reappeared. My photo is less than perfect, as it is heavily cropped, but it absolutely has to be my blip. I feel a return visit may be in order with a more suitable lens.......I just hope the bittern also chooses to show up!

I'm so pleased I have a black & white journal as well because I really like this image and I would have hated not being able to blip it!
