Twin Towers of Bologna

At one time there were hundreds of towers in Bologna, built by wealthy families to protect their individual home. These two remain as they were also church bell towers. In most italian cities, City Centrale, the center of these medieval towns, usually includes a large piazza in front of a cathedral. In most towns, about 4blocks in each direction surrounding the piazza have been turned into a pedestrian walking area; lovely for tourists who can wander comfortably without combatting vehicle traffic.
