The Aqueduct (widwed130219)

My last week of hosting Wide Wednesday and the theme is infrastructure. Edstone Aqueduct has been blipped many times and is the longest aqueduct in England.  I see it as a good example of infrastructure as the canals were a major part of the industrial revolution and allowed goods to be moved about the country relatively efficiently.

As time went by their purpose transferred to the railway, so I think it is ironic that this particular canal passes over a rail line.  Particularly so as the remaining canals have had something of a revival as a leisure space and the railways suffered something of a decline with the arrival of the mass car ownership.

I'll go through the entries later tonight and award the favourites tomorrow evening (Thursday UK time)
