Provan Hall
An short afternoon trip along the motorway to visit Auchinlea Park in Glasgow.
This park is only a few hundred yards from the huge Fort retail park in Easterhouse but offers short woodland walks and the magnificent Provan Hall (pictured) with its formal and medieval gardens.
The original estate was granted to the church by the Earl of Cumbria (later to become King David I of Scotland) in the early 12th century and the first part of what is now Provan Hall was built in the mid-15th century, making it one of the oldest, if not perhaps the oldest, buildings in Glasgow. It is now a small museum run by Glasgow City Council and the guided tour (which I took on a previous visit) is very informative.
