Dusseldorf & Delays

Got up and 3.45 and made my way through the cold to the station. Took a train to St.Etienne and another to Lyon and another to the airport (only caught it by the skin of my teeth.) I didn't get lost, I wasn't late. Looks like things could only go downhill from there.

My flight was delayed by 1 and a half hours giving me plenty of time to try out all the duty free perfumes. When in the air we had to do a few circuits (40 minutes worth) whilst they cleared snow from the runway; the thought of being reunited with my best friends and the beautiful views of snowy Dusseldorf from the air kept me from being impatient.

Arrived at the airport only to be told the next Skytrain wasn't for another 40 minutes. At 12.30, two and a half hours later than planned I finally made it to Katie Earl. I was super excited, only to be told that Jeanette and Sophie had decided not to come as they were worried about getting stuck in Dusseldorf. I certainly understand their decision but I would not have missed this trip for the world. We took the train to the station where we met Laura Fry. Emotional to say the least. Schweiner Janes for pork based lunch was in order, very German, very delicious. The afternoon was passed in looking round the markets and shops with an obligatory trip into H&M. We had hot chocolate in a chocolate shop, the best and largest hot chocolate I have ever tasted! Afterwards we were cold and tired and so we headed back to the youth hostel to warm up and watch Love Actually. It was so lovely to have film nights like old time & I could not be feeling more Christmassy.

Fell asleep listening to all the gossip and news of the last few months. How I have missed this easy friendship.
