Gymnastics

Through to Glasgow for the Gymnastics World Cup event at the new Emirates Arena (one of the new venues built for the Commonwealth Games in 2014, right next to the Sir Chris Hoy velodrome). It was all highly enjoyable and quite spectacular, the mens and womens competitions both taking in a wide range of apparatus - pommel, rings, vault, beam, etc and, in the case of this image, floor exercises.

Big support behind Kristian Thomas and Daniel Purvis, the two British men who were part of the silver medal-winning team at the Olympics, although their competition was won in the end by the crowd-pleasing German who everyone seemed to like because he smiled and waved a lot, was a very handsome young man all-round and had some slicked back hair reminiscent of Kraftwerk circa 1978 (maybe that's just why I liked him, ahem). The womens competition was won by an outrageously talented 16yr old who pretty much trounced everyone else from the get-go.

Music, did someone mention Kraftwerk?

[Should just mention that in the interval I popped outside to witness a quite spectacular sunset going on as well as popping my head into the velodrome and taking a few photos, only to be ushered out pronto along with loads of other people who'd gone in for a wee look after being told that in the interval we could go in and, erm, have a look. But apparently we shouldn't have been allowed in at all. Oh well, never mind, will have to go back to watch a competition there properly, it looked amazing in there]
