Christmas Market #1: Winchester
Drove down to Winchester this morning to visit their much talked about Christmas Market! Not a long journey at all and we managed to get parked right in the town centre for free!
Had a good time walking around. It was VERY BUSY. All of England and their dog was there! Some really super stalls selling gorgeous handicrafts, but the only thing we bought was food(!) and mulled wine! Oh, I bought myself a wool hat to replace uncool beanie but that was from EWM.
Such a beautiful warm(ish) day today. Bright sun and 9degC - a good day to be out and about. I couldn't narrow the day down to one pic, so have tried a 6 picture collage for the first time. This is what you're looking at:
Top Left: The ice-rink with the Cathedral as the backdrop. (The Market is on Cathedral grounds.)
Top Centre: Geraldine enjoying the tastiest Mulled Wine we've had in a long time.
Top Right: As we had time to go into the Cathedral, I was able to capture the ceiling fan-vaulting. This is a picture I often take in an ancient church. (How DID they make their buildings so tall?!)
Bottom Left: The sun and dark clouds made for the most spectacular lighting. I really wanted to capture the lamp post - it looks SO old-fashioned
Bottom Centre: The Cathedral from outside. You'd never be able to tell how many thousands of people were the other side of this building! I just wanted to capture the amazing colours.
Bottom Right: This 8 piece brass band caught our ear playing the Hallelujah Chorus and sounding very Salvation Army-ish. They were raising money for Naomi House - a children's hospice.
We had plenty of time to walk around the High Street and take in all the atmosphere. A real buzz to the whole place. Saw the bollards that Red Flash often mentions in her blips. Good journey back and tomorrow, we are going to meet Tig.bmp!! How cool is that? Really looking forward to it.
