Good old....

....fish and chips.

We went out with friends to a pub style restaurant.  It is run by an English man and his Thai wife.  His  Friday night special is fish and chips.  He uses perch.  Our friends are from Yorkshire and I am from Manchester, hubby is originally from Wimbledon, but spent most of his time in Manchester.   The landlord is a southerner.  We ended up having a very funny conversation about the peas.  We said that although the fish and chips were delicious, there should have been mushy peas, the response was "why would you take a beautiful pea and mash it?"  He said that may be he could provide us northerners with a potato masher.   Our Yorkshire friends are heading home soon but will be back.  They are going to bring him a tin of mushy peas.  They are also going to bring me a tin.

The meal was lovely.  It came with homemade tartar sauce.
