Bobby, the Daredevil
We got together this morning with our Michigan friends Bobby (don't call me Bob!) and his wife Linda. After lunch at Sonny's BBQ, we headed south to the Big Bend Power Plant in Apollo Beach, Florida.
What is special about a power plant? The plant produces power, and the power produces heat, and the heat attracts hundreds of manatees during the colder winter months. They come in from the bay after feeding to stay warm.
We had a small discussion about what manatees look like in the water. Since they only have to surface for air every 7-20 minutes...we decided that they either look like giant stones or baked potatoes.
Bobby was getting bored with their inactivity, so he forced the issue...getting into the water to try to get them to do some tricks. (It didn't work, but he did show some amazing balancing ability.)
But, he wasn't done. He swam across the bay like Johnny Weissmuller as Tarzan, and started up the ladder on the far side of one of the towers. I tried to stop him from doing either stunt, but he is originally from Kentucky...and HE DOESN'T LISTEN!
Why isn't he wet in the picture? Hmmmm...maybe...1. He jumped across the backs of several manatees to get to the one he is posing on? 2. Fast drying clothes? 3. Perhaps...just perhaps...he was photo-shopped in?
We'll never know, because that is all I am going to write. ;0)
