Sally Mair - Loving life

Leighton Moss

We spent the morning at the RSPB reserve at Leighton Moss today. It was, in theory warmer than yesterday in that there was no snow, but it didn't feel it and was very cold and damp. Among the more unusual birds, we saw a great white egret (not so exotic when I'm in India but unusual here), some snipe, lots of teal, marsh harriers and a huge selection of finches and tits. This robin was just one of many exceptionally well fed and friendly robins we saw. The nuthatch was performing beautifully along with his cousins the long tailed tits, wren, chaffinches, great tits, bluetits, marsh tits, coal tits and all the others I couldn't remember or identify. Oh and a tree creeper too. Wonderful.
This beautiful owl is carved in a tree trunk on the way to some of the further hides.
I spent the afternoon in Kendal picking up a couple of things I'd ordered and making sure I'd done enough steps. Home again tomorrow and I'll be into my last week of hectic packing and finishing off of jobs before I go.
