Sitting on the dock of the lagoon...

...off our front yard, I spotted this Little Blue Heron come in for a landing to check things out in the mangroves. Soon the bird hopped down into the water and grabbed an unsuspecting crab! It's great to have such entertainment without leaving home.
But we did leave home earlier this morning to join a local bird walk hosted by the Marine Discovery Center. Due to the drop in temperature and high winds lately, we did not see as many birds on this walk as we have in other years. But there was one special sighting on the walk, a Spotted Sandpiper. And special to me, a Westerner, was seeing a Red-bellied Woodpecker. You can see both in extras.
