Derby Railway Village
Another day working in Derby, and another sunny but cold lunchtime walk. I only had time for a short walk today so I went to the Railway Village conservation area near the railway station.
This view shows the curved former corner shop at the junction of Midland Place and Calvert Street. The three streets of railway cottages were built by the NMR company, and each street took its name from the company: North Street, Midland Place and Railway Terrace. North Street was later renamed Calvert Street.
The cottages were built in 1841. There were originally 92 of them, and 55 remain, having been restored in 1981 by the Derbyshire Historic Buildings Trust.
