Bridge building
Think we need quite a lot of bridge builders in the UK at the moment.
This cast iron bridge over the cycle track dates from 1892 which I guess must be when this branch line to Davidsons Mains and on to Barnton must have been being built. Apparently it opened in 1894 and closed in 1951. What a loss, but it does provide a wonderful network of straight and fairly flat walkways around Edinburgh today.
The City of Edinburgh plaque underneath says the bridge was refurbished in 1999.
The extra shows the major event taking place in EH4 today when Hazelh and I took part in the great preserve exchange. Swapping a jar of marmalade for a jar of chutney. We meet at the bridge at Telford Road which we have both blipped recently and celebrated our meeting and the exchange in the traditional way with a mini glass of prosecco!
Sadly the artist Brian was not present but we allowed Mr Sallymair and Mr Hazelh to share in the celebrations and take the pictures! No doubt Hazelh will share her pic of the preserve exchange of which I failed to get a picture.. Duh! It was great to meet up and I'm hoping we can have a bigger Edinburgh blipmeet later this Spring after I get back from India.
Thanks for the chutney, we're both looking forward to it, it was great to see you both :-) and meet face to face at last.
Enough steps today in spite of lots of church things going on! - 15420.
