It'll Come

I recently took my daughter #2 to the Barras in Glasgow and came upon this. Now I may be showing my age, but she couldn't even guess what this was or how to use it.

It's a bit like other lost dark arts like morse code or navigating using a map and compass. When a giant solar storm or some other disaster strikes the planet and rendering most of modern, delicate, digital technology useless. I will have my day!
