Red Spider Wasp

This undesirable wasp was on fennel flowers. She hunts the largest spiders we have, paralyses them, and drags them off to her nest for her young to feed on. At 20mm long she is very strong. A few years ago I made a short movie of one dragging a spider larger than herself, here if you are interested.

Today was gloomy and mild. Perfect for gardening. I was pleased with what I got done, including weeding all the pots that contain my miniature bulbs etc. They are now safely under the hedge waiting for next winter.
