Unexpected visitor
I was going to cheat a bit and post a photo from my lovely walk at the wetlands yesterday… there was just too much else with all those book arts and Fiona…but today was an even nicer day so H and I had a walk along the lake to see if we could see this great egret I’d heard about…. Saw it fly twice but this is as good as I could get thru the branches…left space so you can see how it’s perched on a crowded floating home. Every bird map I looked at said they do not come quite this far north. someone said it might be a “white” blue heron (in essence it is) but they are only found in S. Florida.( and have yellow legs) So I had to blip it in case it decided to leave us and fly south.
I did put a little set on flickr of yesterday and today’s birds, ... Only very occasionally do I wish I had a lens that does them justice,. yesterday was one of those days…I’m not really a birder but I love the landscape and wish the birds were sharper. Today was a different lens. the flickr site wouldn’t let me label them —-VERY slow so you’ll just have to decide ..there’s a wood duck and a quite a few others —and great blue heron as well as the eagles ..male, female and in a nearby tree, getting harassed by he crows, a juvenile eagle holding it’s wing strangely. We wondered if it was hurt.
On the Lake, hooded mergansers, coots, and a kingfisher….
