Moving Into The Unknown

David

I met David while I was on my way to an appointment this afternoon.  He's lived on the streets periodically for 25 years.  Most recently he had to leave the shelter he was staying at because as he put it, his "term limit" prevented him from staying any longer.  David has termed out of many shelters in the area.  He's on a waiting list for subsidized housing, but said the wait time is currently three years.  He worked for years at a local frozen food processor, but following an injury wasn't able to return.  Currently David's health situation prevents him from straying too far from the free health clinic he uses in town.  Diabetes makes the cold months especially tough for David, who was struggling to pull a suitcase and one huge garbage bag containing everything he owns.

I really enjoyed our conversation and David asked if I could come back sometime.  From one David to another, I promised that I would return.
