Forty-nine years ago today I went through these gates to become an Artificer in the Royal Navy.
Unconventional school years meant it was tough but I made it and after a year moved on to the next phase of training.
It was the beginning of a life that gave me fantastic opportunities, life experiences I could never have dreamed of and lifelong friends.
