Our last day!

The forecast was for more snow today so I decided last night not to ski. However when I woke up this morning it was a beautiful day with clear skies. Gavin went skiing by himself and was later joined by Thomas. I had promised Luke a walk and lunch in the village as he has been stuck at home most days and I felt he needed to get out. This is the scene as we walked down the road - it has been snow ploughed but despite that, one could ski down the road to the village!

We were not out long as Luke wanted to get back to his work - he is currently working on his final year dissertation. I was happy taking photos and then spending the afternoon editing them, it always can keep me busy for hours.

Much later this afternoon we heard an ambulance going up the road outside our apartment. Our chalet apartment overlooks the golf course, which in winter is the local village ski slope. We immediately realised that someone had been injured on this slope, which is not a common occurrence as it is an easy village ski slope that is not very high. A short while later we saw a helicopter, which landed on the ski slope - quite tricky with the power lines running across it in addition to the ski lift lines - this meant that whoever was injured had a serious injury as they could not be taken the short distance down the slope in the 'blood wagon' to the waiting ambulance. The helicopter took off again and landed right at the chalet restaurant on the slope, as presumably that is where the injured person was being kept warm, and it then took 6 paramedics carefully carrying the injured person on a stretcher to get to the helicopter. I felt sick watching this, knowing someone has a very serious injury. I am very grateful that we have finished our holiday here with no injuries, it is always a sigh of relief on the last day to acknowledge that.

Now I am off to pack as we leave very early tomorrow morning to fly home again. It's an early start but I will have to watch the next episode of Luther tonight, such a brilliant TV series. I am looking forward to seeing Murdoch!
