Another unforgettable experience.
7.45am bus to Kvaløya with 20odd other tourists and out to the 300strong Alaskan husky farm.
Meet the howling hounds, then board a sled, sitting on and under reindeer skin. Victor, our musher, expertly guided us round the woods and over frozen lakes in the vague gloaming. As soon as we were moving, the dogs were silenced and in the zone of the task. It was everything I’d hoped it would be.
Then, after some more dog socialising (as in the pic above), we were allowed into the puppy section. Too cute for words.
Finally, we were shepherded into a huge barbecue hut with a central wood burning hearth, to be served with warming Bidos (reindeer soup), bread, tea and cake.
Now I am going to attempt a short run to try out the winter conditions...
