Tromsø from the Fjellheisen
A warm front passed through the fjords today to rot the snow. Arriving from bright and sunny Edinburgh was a shock to the system, not only to darkness and massive amounts of snow, but also the way the citizens just coped with it.
The roads are treacherous to walk on, with rutted ice like what closed the M8 motorway in 2010, but all the cars and buses have studded tyres or chains to dot about.
After arrival, we caught a bus over the water to the mainland where we boarded the cable car up the hill for tea. What was falling as rain at sea level was snow on the viewing balcony.
